We are delighted to announce our newest addition, Smoke Tree Poetry in Motion! The first time we laid eyes on him we just knew we had to have him. This spectacular colt was bred by Kathy Reese of Smoke Tree Welsh Ponies and is being raised on our farm as our future stallion prospect. Poet, as we call him, was born on April 3rd, 2012 and is by the gorgeous imported stallion, *Smoke Tree Spun Gold LOM, out of *Smoke Tree Pentewyn.
*Smoke Tree Spun Gold LOM is full sibling to *Sleight of Hand LOM/AOE/OD, who holds the record for being Supreme Champion of the Welsh American Nationals more times than any other Welsh Pony. *Smoke Tree Spun Gold LOM is also the sire of several in-hand and performance champions in the Hunter and Dressage rings.
*Smoke Tree Pentewyn is by the UK stallion Boston Bentick, who also sired Royal Welsh Champion Eyarth Beau Geste. Eyarth Beau Geste has proven to be a stellar producer by siring Royal Welsh Winners such as Mynach Miss Prim, *Wedderlie Maradonna, and *Wedderlie Mardi Gras LOM/AOE to name a few.
Poet has two full siblings, Smoke Tree Starlet and Smoke Tree Black Pearl. Smoke Tree Starlet was born in 2010 and has already competed amongst the top ponies in the country with fantastic results. She placed 2nd at Devon and was 6th place at the Upperville Colt & Horse Show in her 2yo Pony Hunter Fillies class. Not to be outdone on WPCSA circuit, she was Supreme and Reserve Supreme Champion Mid Atlantic Welsh Show, later going on to place 4th in the Nation and 2nd in the Southeast in Section B Welsh Pony Fillies. Meanwhile, Smoke Tree Black Pearl was also recently acquired by Lorelei Welsh Ponies, but has never been shown. We are currently researching potential stallions to cross her with for her first foal!
Needless to say, Poet has a lot to live up to! We have no doubt in our minds that he will be a superstar not only in the show ring, but also later on in the breeding shed. He is truly a once in a lifetime pony, and we can’t wait to have him home!
